Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Hey there Quin, thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment! I never thought of the Celtic knots as mirroring his smile before, that is cute! "

Did you use one of his album covers for reference? Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note:You are among the few who have seen this picture and gone "It's Dougie MacLean!". I did use a little bitty picture inside one of the CD covers, but I can't remember which one it was, it was tough though (get the magnifying glass )! I think that people who play music are amazing, I have a bodhran that I used to try and play on. There were two timea where I got it going right with a tape of some other bodhran playing, and that was one of the most amazing feelings ever. I can't imagine what it feels like to play with a band and have that feeling all the time. Thank you for taking the time to comment! "

Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: "Riddles"? I am guessing you mean the knots? Though that would make an interesting thing in a book, they are riddles one needs to figure out in order to save the world/the girl/find treasure, ect. ect. They are pretty fun to draw, if painstaking, I'm glad you enjoyed looking at my design. Thanks! "

It's been said by many viewers already, but the knotwork, the harmony of the whole picture and the shading are nothing less than awesome! I'm not familiar with Mr.MacLean, but this drawing makes me want to listen to him. I also like the expression you gave the bard. Very nice work! Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: *blushes* Thank you! This one has been up since 1999, one of the first pictures I ever put on Elfwood, back when I had patience to complete knotwork! I think you can find snippits of his music on the web. Also, on NPR , there should be a program called "The Thistle and Shamrock" which will introduce you to the range of Celtic music that is out there (look to their website for playing times in your area). | 2 Nov 2005 | Blackbird of Skye | Loading...I am a huge fan of Dougie Maclean and I love celtic knotwork so I love this picture. Dougie's wife's name is Jenny so thought at first she did the drawing (her's are the fantastic watercolors you see on MacLean's album covers). This piece is "lovely" as Dougie would say. I'll bet he'd love to see it. Jenny M. Heidewald replies: "Jenny's Note: Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I have actually shown it to him, once through e-mail and then a few years later when I met him in person(At the Smithsonian thing at The Mall in DC). I asked him to sign the draing for me. He remembered it from the e-mail. "
